Climate in Albacete

Albacete, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla-La Mancha, sits on the southeastern edge of the southern meseta at 686 metres above sea level, on an elevated plain exposed to plateau winds. Its climate is semi-arid continental Mediterranean, with cold winters and hot summers. The annual average temperature is about 14 °C, with summer highs of 34 °C and winter lows that often drop below -2 °C.

Annual rainfall is approximately 365 mm, scarce and concentrated in spring and autumn. The Albacete plain is known for its intense winds, which gave rise to a famous popular saying about the city extreme climate. Frosts are frequent between November and March, exceeding 55 days per year. Summer thunderstorms with hail are a common occurrence. The daily temperature range is notable, with differences of more than 16 °C between day and night in midsummer.
