Climate in Alicante

Alicante, the capital of the province of the same name in the Valencian Community, stretches at the foot of Mount Benacantil on the Mediterranean coast, barely above sea level. Its climate is dry Mediterranean, with very mild winters and hot summers. The annual average temperature is about 18.3 °C, with summer highs of 31 °C and winter lows that rarely fall below 6 °C, thanks to the thermoregulatory influence of the sea.

Annual rainfall is very scarce, barely 311 mm, concentrated mainly in autumn. The gota fría can dump more than the monthly average in a single day. Alicante enjoys over 2,850 hours of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest cities in Spain. The sea breeze cools summer afternoons, while the westerly poniente wind can raise temperatures during summer. Frost and snowfall are virtually unknown in the city.
