Climate in Ávila

Ávila, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla y León, is the highest provincial capital in Spain, situated at 1,131 metres above sea level on the northern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos. Its climate is mountain continental Mediterranean, with long, very cold winters and short, cool summers. The annual average temperature barely exceeds 10.5 °C, with summer highs of 28 °C and winter lows that frequently drop to -5 °C or below.

Annual rainfall is around 400 mm, moderate and distributed between autumn and spring. Snow is frequent from November to April, settling several times each winter. Frost days exceed 100 per year, making it one of the coldest capitals in the country. The altitude and exposure to cold winds from the meseta create a very low winter wind-chill factor. The daily temperature range is considerable, with cool nights even in summer.
