Climate in Burgos

Burgos, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla y León, sits on the northern meseta at 856 metres above sea level, crossed by the Arlanzon River at the foot of a hill crowned by its castle. It is one of the highest and coldest provincial capitals in Spain. Its climate is cold continental Mediterranean, with very harsh winters and short, moderate summers. The annual average temperature barely reaches 10.7 °C, with summer highs of 27 °C and winter lows that often drop below -4 °C.

Annual rainfall is around 546 mm, peaking in spring and autumn. Frost days exceed 90 per year, and snowfall is frequent between November and April. The city is exposed position makes it vulnerable to cold northerly winds, which intensify the wind-chill effect. Burgos records some of the lowest temperatures of any Spanish city, with historical absolute minimums reaching -22 °C.
