Climate in Ciudad Real

Ciudad Real, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla-La Mancha, spreads across the flat La Mancha plain at 628 metres above sea level, on level, open terrain with no significant geographical features. Its climate is continental Mediterranean, with very hot summers and moderately cold winters. The annual average temperature is around 14.5 °C, with summer highs frequently exceeding 35 °C and winter lows near 1 °C.

Annual rainfall is scarce, approximately 400 mm, with an extremely dry summer and rain concentrated in autumn and spring. The lack of terrain relief allows winds to sweep across the plain unimpeded. Frosts are common from November to March. The daily temperature range is very pronounced, typical of the southern meseta. Summer convective storms can produce significant hail, as La Mancha is one of the areas in Spain with the highest frequency of summer thunderstorms.
