Climate in Córdoba

Córdoba, the capital of the province of the same name in Andalusia, extends across the middle Guadalquivir valley at 106 metres above sea level, at the foot of Sierra Morena. Its climate is Mediterranean with extremely hot summers, making it one of the warmest cities in Europe. The annual average temperature reaches 17.6 °C, with summer highs that frequently exceed 37 °C and can reach 44 °C during heatwaves. Winters are mild, with lows around 4 °C.

Annual rainfall is approximately 536 mm, concentrated between October and April, with a virtually rainless summer. Córdoba enjoys over 2,800 hours of sunshine per year. Its position in the Guadalquivir valley, sheltered from northerly winds by Sierra Morena, favours the stagnation of hot air in summer, explaining its extreme temperatures. Summer nights are warm, with lows often staying above 20 °C, a phenomenon known as tropical nights.
