Climate in Cuenca

Cuenca, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla-La Mancha, rises spectacularly above a limestone gorge carved by the Jucar and Huecar rivers at 956 metres above sea level, in the Serrania Conquense. Its climate is continental Mediterranean with a mountain nuance, with cold winters and moderately hot summers. The annual average temperature is about 12.5 °C, with summer highs of 30 °C and winter lows that frequently drop below -2 °C.

Annual rainfall totals approximately 490 mm, distributed mainly in spring and autumn. Snow is relatively frequent between December and March, and frost days exceed 70 per year. The altitude and position within a rocky gorge create a distinctive microclimate: the canyon floor can be several degrees colder than the surrounding plateau due to thermal inversión. Summer thunderstorms are common across the Cuenca mountain ranges.
