Climate in Pontevedra

Pontevedra, the capital of the province of the same name in Galicia, sits at the head of the Ria de Pontevedra, just a few metres above sea level, sheltered by surrounding hills. Its climate is humid oceanic with some Mediterranean influence, as the Rias Baixas enjoy a slightly warmer and sunnier microclimate than the rest of Galicia. The annual average temperature is around 15 °C, with summer highs of 26 °C and winter lows of 5 °C.

Annual rainfall is high, approximately 1,600 mm, concentrated especially between October and March. However, summers are relatively dry compared to other Galician cities. Frosts are rare and snowfall at city level is exceptional. The estuary provides high ambient humidity and moderates temperatures, while its position in the southern part of the Galician Atlantic axis offers somewhat milder conditions than northern Galicia.
