Climate in Salamanca

Salamanca, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla y León, rises on hills at 798 metres above sea level on the banks of the Tormes River, on the northern Castilian meseta. Its climate is continental Mediterranean, with cold winters and hot, dry summers. The annual average temperature is about 12.5 °C, with summer highs of 30 °C and winter lows that frequently fall below 0 °C.

Annual rainfall totals approximately 372 mm, relatively scarce, concentrated in spring and autumn. Frost days are frequent, exceeding 70 per year. Snow appears several days each winter but is generally not heavy. The daily temperature range is notable, with differences of more than 15 °C between day and night. Morning fog is common in the Tormes valley during autumn and winter, adding to the sensation of winter cold.
