Climate in Soria

Soria, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla y León, sits in the upper Duero valley at 1,063 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest provincial capitals in Spain. Its climate is cold continental Mediterranean, with long, harsh winters and short, cool summers. The annual average temperature is only 11 °C, with summer highs of 28 °C and winter lows that frequently drop below -4 °C.

Annual rainfall is around 500 mm, well distributed between autumn and spring. Snow is common from November to April. Frost days exceed 90 per year, and Soria competes with Burgos, Ávila and Teruel for the title of coldest provincial capital in Spain. Nights are cool even in midsummer, with lows that can fall below 10 °C in July. Cold northerly wind is a constant during winter months, accentuating the harshness of the Sorian climate.
