Climate in Zaragoza

Zaragoza, the capital of the province of the same name and of Aragón, sits in the Ebro depression at 208 metres above sea level, at the confluence of the Ebro, Huerva and Gallego rivers. Its climate is semi-arid continental Mediterranean, with very hot summers and cold winters. The annual average temperature is around 15.5 °C, with summer highs exceeding 35 °C and winter lows frequently dropping below 0 °C.

Annual rainfall is scarce, barely 315 mm, making it one of the driest provincial capitals in Spain. The most distinctive weather phenomenon is the cierzo, a cold, dry, persistent northwesterly wind channelled through the Ebro valley, which can gust above 100 km/h. This wind intensifies the wind-chill factor in winter but helps clear the skies.
