Province climate

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the province of the same name and co-capital of the Canary Islands, lies on the northeast coast of Tenerife, at the foot of the Anaga massif, barely above sea level. Its climate is subtropical oceanic, with very mild and stable temperatures throughout the year. The annual average temperature is about 21 °C, with summer highs of 29 °C and winter lows of 15 °C, one of the narrowest annual temperature ranges in Spain.

Annual rainfall is moderate, around 226 mm, concentrated between November and February. Summers are virtually dry. Santa Cruz enjoys approximately 2,900 hours of sunshine per year. The northeast trade winds keep summer temperatures moderate and bring moisture to the northern slopes of the island. A characteristic phenomenon is the calima, an intrusion of hot air and Saharan dust that can raise temperatures more than 10 °C above normal for several days.
