Climate in León

León, the capital of the province of the same name in Castilla y León, extends across the northern meseta at 838 metres above sea level, at the confluence of the Bernesga and Torío rivers, at the foot of the Cantabrian Mountains. Its climate is cold continental Mediterranean, with long, harsh winters and short, warm summers. The annual average temperature is around 11 °C, with summer highs of 27 °C and winter lows that frequently reach -3 °C.

Annual rainfall totals approximately 556 mm, peaking in spring and autumn. Snow is frequent between December and March, averaging 16 snow days per year. Frost days exceed 80 annually, making León one of the coldest provincial capitals in Spain. The nearby mountain range occasionally brings heavy snowfall and strong northerly winds. Fog is a persistent phenomenon during the winter months.
