Mist is a hydrometeor similar to fog but with visibility between 1 and 5 km (fog reduces it to less than 1 km). It consists of suspended water droplets 1–10 μm in diameter in the lower atmosphere.

Distinction from other phenomena

It should not be confused with haze (solid particles) or dry haze (smoke or pollution). Mist forms under high humidity (relative humidity 80–100%) and is common during early mornings in coastal areas and river valleys. It usually dissipates as the sun warms the surface.
