AROME (Application of Research to Operations at Mesoscale) is a mesoscale model with 1.3 km resolution, capable of explicitly resolving convection (without parameterisation). It predicts thunderstorms, torrential rain, and local snowfall more accurately than global models.
It is the best-performing European model for the Iberian Peninsula, especially for Mediterranean events. Open-Meteo uses AROME data for high-resolution forecasts in Spain. AEMET also operates its own HARMONIE-AROME.
